Don’t Forget About Your Home Theater Seating
Enhance the Comfort of Your Home Theater Installation
You’ve got your brand new laser projector, dedicated theater screen, and high-performance speakers delivering immersive 3-dimensional sound. Now all that’s left to do is lay back and enjoy the show. Except that’s when you realize your seat doesn’t actually recline! The fact is many of our clients get so hypnotized by the glitz of their AV equipment they forget an important factor: home theater seating.
But just think of your local cinema and how great it was when it upgraded from standard seats to recliners. So why settle for anything less when it comes to your home theater system? One of the perks of watching at home is greater comfort–no sticky hallways, no freezing temperatures, and no uncomfortable seats!

Cinematech: The Premier Home Theater Provider
When we’re designing home theaters for our clients, Cinematech is our top choice for seating. The award-winning company delivers the perfect balance of comfort and style, letting you show off your personality while still having the best seat in the house. They’re one of the few companies that specialize in home theater seating, which means they consider things like incline depth, walkway room, and riser dimensions. Plus, seats are customized to your needs with a wide range of models, fabrics, colors, and add-ons. To showcase their versatility, we wanted to focus on two of our favorite models: the Valentino and the Estrella.
Like the name implies, the Valentino is a theater legend. It’s an iconic home theater recliner known for its sleek, but comfortable design. It includes a motorized recliner, saddleback cushion and headrest. Whatever decor you have in mind for your theater, the Valentino will fit right in with hundreds of leather and fabric selections. If you’re looking for a more communal viewing experience, then the Estrella sectional is a great option. Ideal for front-seat accommodations for the entire family, it includes all the customization options of the Valentino along with various configurations based on your viewing (and reclining) preferences.
Home Theater Seating Design Tips
Where you place your seating is as important as finding the right model. Home theater seating layouts are so important, we figure them out before placing the screen or speakers. It’s also one of the reasons we love Cinematch; they offer home theater design services along with their seating. There are a few general tips when it comes to laying out your seats to ensure everyone gets the same awesome viewing experience.
You need to decide the number of seats and their placement before installing any AV equipment. The display then needs to be placed in a way that offers everyone a 40 to 50-degree viewing angle and a clear view of the screen. How about speakers? Keep seats at least four feet from the walls to allow for surround speakers. For theaters with multiple rows, risers are a must. Finally, it may be a given, but we still see many installations that don’t leave enough room between seats to let people walk by, lean back, or put out their footrests.
